The German Consul-General in conversation with FUNAAB!
In the Month of March, the German Consul-General to Nigeria, Weert Borner, visited the prestigious Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and had some deliberations on a possible collaboration with the institution towards bolstering agricultural innovations that will aid sustainable food production in the country.
In his lecture titled “Nigeria-German Cooperation: Improving Food Security Through Sustainable Agriculture”, Borner pointed out the need for sustainable solutions for long-term development and prosperity in addition to the food aid that has continued to be provided by the German government and the United Nations in the country.
He highlighted the high-level visits that have been made to Nigerian authorities, including the visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to assist in fostering agricultural collaborations and ensure economic stability in the country. He pointed out the many inherent benefits of cassava and proposed a possible partnership on improving the productivity of cassava. He also noted the ongoing partnerships aimed at establishing Trade Fairs focused on Agro-food, the 6th edition that was held between March 26 – 28, 2024.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde expressed gratitude to Mr. Borner and his wife for their visit and emphasized the University’s commitment to fostering collaboration through initiatives such as faculty exchanges, joint research endeavours, and integration of contemporary agricultural technologies into the curriculum.
Glytabs Consulting Ltd looks forward to the dividends of this conversation as it promises to be of great benefit in the quest for increasing ‘town and gown’ interactions with the Nigerian research community, towards the emergence of groundbreaking innovations for sustainable food production and agricultural prosperity in the nation.
