Theme of the Conference: Next Generation Food Science and Technology Solutions for Nation Building

The five-day event, held from October 20-24, 2025, in the Main Hall of De Peace Hotels, Ilorin, Kwara State, brought together stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and international development organizations to explore cutting-edge innovations shaping the future of food science and technology in Nigeria. The opening ceremony featured a welcome address by the NIFST President, Dr. Bola Osinowo, and a keynote address by Prof. Folake Hanshaw of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAAB), setting the tone for robust discussions throughout the week.
Glytabs Consulting Ltd/CAFSANI made a significant contribution through the plenary session jointly hosted with Helen Keller, titled “Large-Scale Food Fortification as a Next-Generation Technology Solution for Nutrition and Nation Building.” The session featured Dr. Augustine Okoruwa, Mr. Chukwuma Anene, and Mrs. Faith Ishaya-Nyam from Helen Keller Int’l. The team enlightened participants on the progress so far made in Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF), highlighting as well the existing gaps and challenges in implementation. Key recommendations shared included exploring new fortification vehicles such as bouillon, fostering strategic collaboration among stakeholders, encouraging greater government commitment to consumer awareness, and strengthening laboratory capacity for effective monitoring and quality assurance. Discussions underscored the vital role of LSFF in addressing micronutrient deficiencies and driving improved nutrition outcomes nationwide.

- A Special Presentation Session by Prof Taofeek Shittu, FUNAAB, on Progress made so far towards Commercialization of Egg Powder Production Project
The conference concluded with NIFST’s Annual General Meeting and induction of new members, marking another milestone in fostering collaboration and professional development within Nigeria’s Food Science community.
